Our Step Up Club is going along extremely well and the girls are having a great time! The theme we're focused on this year is "A Thread of Kindness".

This past meeting we focused on the Mitzvah of tzedakah (charity) and how there are actually 8 different levels to giving charity!

After learning we had some fun spray
painting our own tshirts!

Step Up -- Meeting #2!!

In continuation of our "Thread of Kindness" theme, we started our meeting off with watching a short movie/clip, and what goes perfectly with that?? Popcorn of course!!

We learned that even if you don't see it, every good thing you do, no matter how big or small, has an affect on the world that is bigger than you'll ever realize!

                                                   Making "helping hands" shrinky dinks!

Pix of last meeting and more pix...

Our third meeting was a load of fun!

"It's not all Black & White"

We learned this from one of our foremothers, Rochel.

Rochel was betrothed to Yaakov. Knowing that her father was a sly man and might switch Rochel for her sister Leah, gave her signs so that he'll know if he was marrying the right sister. Lavan (Rochel's father) did indeed switch the two sisters and sent Leah to marry Yaakov. Rochel now had the choice to either give the signs away and in turn give away her chance to marry Yaakov, or keep the signs to herself and end up with the embarrassment of her sister.

She chose to give up her signs. We learn from her that sometimes choices are not always as simple as we would like them to be.

BMC Meeting #2!

Our second meeting was a smash success!

We learned to stand up for what we believe in even though it may be hard.
Yehudis , a Jewish heroine, taught us how.

The story of Yehudis came to life as we acted out how she, against everyone else's warning, went to the Greek general and in an act of bravery killed him, saving the whole Jerusalem from hunger!  How did she do it? By getting the general so full and sleepy on cheese and wine!

                                                             Cheese themed food!

To end off the meeting we had the hands
on experience of making our own grape juice!

Bat Mitzvah Club -- Meeting #1

Our first Bat Mitzvah Club meeting was a smashing success where the girls got to meet each other and learn all about Sarah, one of our greatest ancestors to date. The pride of a Jewish women was discovered as we discussed Sarah's roles in life, not only as the mother of Yitzchok (who was to become one of our four forefathers) but also that she was the known to be  mother of the Jewish people!

The 3 miracles that Gd did for Sarah came to life when we made our very own candle holders and challa, in a homemade tent! To keep the memoirs and think about it for the next class the girls each took home a notebook with a quote for them to come up with a connection to everything we had learned.

Step Up -- Meeting #1

To kick off our theme of a "Thread of Kindness" we started off the year of Step Up by making Challa! We not only made a challa for ourselves but the girls were able to choose one person who they would like to do something nice for and labeled a second Challa to give to them.
