ISRAEL DAY @ Chabad Hebrew School

To celebrate the Holiday of Tu B'Shvat (15th of Shevat) we had a full day of fun in Hebrew School! Since it's customary to eat from the 7 foods of Israel we had Israel Day with booths and learning all about the Holy Land and it's special foods. The 7 special foods are Wheat, Barley, Grapes, Dates, Pomegranate, Olives & Figs.

Mini Chefs: Tu B'Shvat! 

Happy Birthday to the trees!

At Mini Chefs the kids are able to use their baking/cooking and of course, eating abilities to the max! The children also come away with the knowledge of measurements and quantities from following the recipes given to them.

This holiday revolves all around trees and what comes from them so we centered around fruits and veggies for this Mini Chefs class. The children first got to make the batter for delicious carrot muffins! While those were baking they got to make their own fruit kabobs and drown them in chocolate!

JTEEN - Jewish Teen

“There’s no J_daism without U” This year’s theme: “A Thread of Kindness”

It doesn't matter what age you are the learning and growing never stops! 
In the last meeting the JTeens learned all about the Torah to go along with the theme "Our Torah 101"! After they made, cooked and ate nachos and went home with their minds and stomachs full!

Meeting # 3 - "Practice makes Perfect"

The boys learned and practiced how to make the brachos (blessings) before the reading of the Torah, which every Bar Mitzvah boy gets to do. 
After the learning, the boys prepared, cooked and ate nachos!! Then they were able to go home with great gifts!

Meeting # 1 - "Do the Wrap"

The boys learned all about the Tefillin, a mitzvah that every Jewish boy starts to do from the age of 13. They also got to make their own wraps so they can feed their bodies after their souls were fed!

Sunday Funday is for children as much as it is for parents to have an afternoon to not have to entertain the kids :)

Hundred’s Join for Sukkot Dinner

Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach hosted their annual Sukkot Dinner. Hundreds of Young Russian American Jewish families participated in this dinner and celebration.

“The Sukkah represents unity among all Jews. The Kabbala elaborates that the Sukkah is the spiritual sphere of the ‘encompassing light’, which shows on equality of people. Jews, when eating in the sukkah bring oneness and togetherness to the Jewish people, we were thus able fit so many people in our Sukkah”, said Rabbi Avrohom Winner, of Chabad of Manhattan Beach.

The celebration continued late into the night, with much singing, discussion and celebrating.

Yom Kippur @ Chabad is Something Special

Yom Kippur at Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach is a memorable event. Hundreds of young Jewish Russian American Families joined for the Services

The services included an ongoing, incredibly inspiring Kabbalistic narrative given by Rabbi Avrohom Winner and a children’s program giving the adults the ability to pray and become uplifted by the yom kippur holiday.

“…Our organization and synagogue is constantly growing… this year however, I must say, it has jumped exponentially and we are very proud of what the Rabbi and Shula are doing. Gathering us Russian American Jews together”, said Galina a prominent member of the Manhattan Beach community.

Lag B'omer BBQ 2012

Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach held its annual BBQ this past Thursday at the Rabbi and Reb. backyard.

On Lag B’omer which commemorates the yahrzeit of Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai the author of the Zohar one of the most famous books of Kabbala. Its become a custom to celebrate this day with making a fire reminding us of great flame that followed him to his final burial.

“Rabi Shimon lived his life in a ‘higher dimension’ he lived a Moshiach lifestyle. He saw the greater purpose in life. We must learn from him at least on his yahrzeit that there are times in life we must tune into the ‘higher dimension’ of our own lives.” Said Rabbi Avrohom Winner, who together with his wife Shula are the directors of the Chabad of Manhattan Beach.

The many young families and children that attended are from the Manhattan Beach and Brighton Beach Russian Jewish Community.

“I was really just planning to come in and say hello out of respect to the Rabbi and Shula. I was in total shock of what was going on there. The place was packed many of the families and children I know from the neighborhood, the fun entertainment, delicious food and great company kept me there till the end”. Said Simon a community member.

The Winner’s of Manhattan Beach run many programming for Children and adults throughout the year. From holiday celebration to kosher cooking classes, kabbala lectures and synagogue services.

“Wow! Shula and Rabbi you guys know how to throw a Party!!” said Eve Estrin a member of our community. “I was totally not expecting this.”

The event included a magician show for the children and the lighting of a bon-fire where the kids raosted their own marshmallows.
