Mini Chefs: Tu B'Shvat!

Happy Birthday to the trees!
At Mini Chefs the kids are able to use their baking/cooking and of course, eating abilities to the max! The children also come away with the knowledge of measurements and quantities from following the recipes given to them.

This holiday revolves all around trees and what comes from them so we centered around fruits and veggies for this Mini Chefs class. The children first got to make the batter for delicious carrot muffins! While those were baking they got to make their own fruit kabobs and drown them in chocolate!

Celebrating Passover Seder in Manhattan Beach

Picture taken before the Holiday commenced

April 6, 2012

(Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, NY) Hundreds of Young Jewish Russian American families from the greater Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach communities participated and celebrated the Family Passover Seder this past Friday, April 6 at the Ohel David and Shlomo catering hall. The seder was hosted by Neshama-Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach.

“This is one of, if not the only Passover Seder in south Brooklyn which held a simultaneous children’s program and seder. We want people to realize that Judaism is a ‘family thing’, said Rabbi Avrohom and Shula Winner, co-directors of Chabad of Manhattan Beach.

“It was amazing to watch Shula and how she captivated all the children. We just love what the Rabbi and Shula are doing for our children and the community at large, bringing us Russian Jews together is no small feat”, said Eve a resident of the Oceana complex in Brighton Beach.

The Seder service and dinner was a beautiful event which concluded with a spontaneous dance to the song “next year in Jerusalem!”

Yom Kippur @ Chabad Manhattan Beach 2011

By Arkady Borochovich

Hundreds of Russian – American families joined Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach for Yom Kippur services. The services inaugurated with the solemn Kol Nidrei prayer, on Yom Kippur eve and continued throughout Yom Kippur day with the Yizkor Service (for those that sadly lost a parent and at that time rember their loved ones). The climax of Yom Kippur is the final and closing Neila prayer where the entire room was filled with Jews from all walks of life joining in for those last few moments.

The highlight of the evening was, the recital of Shma at the final moments and concluded with the sounding of the Shofar.

“The essence of a Jew is revealed on Yom Kippur, we must take that boost of spiritual glow and spirit to energize the rest of the year”, said Rabbi Avrohom Winner, Dierctor of Chabad of Manhattan Beach.

A great and organized children’s program was arranged by Ms. Rochel and Ms. Chana Gopin. Giving parent’s a chance to pray, listen in to the Rabbi Winner’s continuous and insightful narration, without the children.

“We want people to realize that Yom Kippur is for children as well, we have ‘children services’, and activities for the kids”, said Shula Winner, Program Director of Chabad.

I must say, all in all it was a very meaningful experience seeing so many of my friends there, especially the ones that I would never imagine would come to a Shul – Synagogue. But as the Rabbi said: yom kippur is when our Neshama shines.
