Earlier this month, we reported on the upcoming celebration of the Synagogue of Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach‘s completion of their first Torah. A Torah Parade was held on September 9, and today we have pictures and reactions of the parade from those who were there. “This was a huge milestone for our synagogue. We finally have our own torah, which was made possible by contributions from the Russian American Jewish community of Manhattan Beach and Brighton Beach,” said Rabbi Avrohom Winner, the head of the Manhattan Beach Chabad (134 West End Avenue). Hundreds of people showed up for the occasion ranging from prominent rabbis and leaders from the local community, including Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowits. According to a press release sent by Chabad Manhattan Beach, local resident Boris Borokhovich summed up the feeling of positivity and goodwill by reflecting that, “This is something we could not even imagine in the former Soviet Union. It was forbidden to keep anything Jewish and here in America we can dance and celebrate our Jewishness in the streets.”

(Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, NY) Hundreds of Young Jewish Russian American families from the greater Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach communities participated and celebrated the Family Passover Seder this past Friday, April 6 at the Ohel David and Shlomo catering hall. The seder was hosted by Neshama-Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach.

“This is one of, if not the only Passover Seder in south Brooklyn which held a simultaneous children’s program and seder. We want people to realize that Judaism is a ‘family thing’, said Rabbi Avrohom and Shula Winner, co-directors of Chabad of Manhattan Beach.

“It was amazing to watch Shula and how she captivated all the children. We just love what the Rabbi and Shula are doing for our children and the community at large, bringing us Russian Jews together is no small feat”, said Eve a resident of the Oceana complex in Brighton Beach.

The Seder service and dinner was a beautiful event which concluded with a spontaneous dance to the song “next year in Jerusalem!”

L’Chaim - Nazdarovya!

“In Odessa we closed the shutters when my grandfather lit the Menorah. Now, we celebrate in public, both indoors and outdoors”, said Rima Mazurovsky about the series of Chanukah events by Project Neshama – Chabad Lubavitch of Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach.

On the second night of Chanukah, Project Neshama - Chabad Lubavitch hosted a lavish Chanukah Gala – Celebrating Jewish Pride at the OPM Hall. The luxurious lounge was overflowing with delicacies, including salads, sushi, pastries, and, of course, an open bar with drinks for every taste. The attendees were mostly young Russian-American Jewish professionals from the Manhattan Beach and Brighton Beach communities. Guests stayed well into the evening dining, talking to friends, and enjoying the beauty of the holiday.

Hundreds of Children and their parents participated on Sunday by the Grand Chanukah Carnival, consisting of Chanukah themed booths, at the Seabreeze Jewish Center. Volunteers from the Chabad C-Teen Program ran the booths. The event was organized by Reb. Esther Winner. “We want the children to feel that Chanukah speaks to them in their language and make the Jewish experience a part of their life”, said Rabbi Zushe Winner, Director of Chabad Lubavitch of Brighton Beach.

Sunday evening hundreds joined Chabad for the Grand Menorah lighting at the Holocaust Park in Manhattan Beach. “Communism couldn’t extinguish the light – the Jewish Menorah inside us. The flame of our Jewish Pride, Jewish Tradition and Jewish Faith must illuminate our lives,” said Rabbi Avrohom Winner, director of Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach.

Tuesday evening the seventh night of Chanukah, Rabbi Moshe D. Winner and Rabbi Shimon Silver led the Public Menorah Lighting of the Brighton Beach Menorah at the Hennessey Triangle on Ocean Parkway and the boardwalk.
