Kosher Sushi in the Sukkah

On the First night of Sukkot Hundreds of young Russian-American professionals from the Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach community attended a Sukkot celebration uniquely called “Kosher Sushi in the Sukkah”.

The participating crowd was awe-inspiring, everyone together in the sukkah, the crowd overflowing into the rest of the backyard.

Half way into the program the rain torrents made everyone run for cover under the closest roof. Through the upstairs or downstairs door the crowd squeezed into the Rabbi’s house.

“It was amazing to watch adults getting down to join the playing children on the floor waiting for the rain to stop,” said Shula.

“I have never seen anyone open up their home to hundreds of people like the Rabbi and Shula,” said Stella, “Rain or shine people marching through…”

“Now that we got everyone into the house we can give all the women a chance to make the blessing on the Holiday Candles,” said Rabbi Avrohom Winner. All the women moved closer to the dining room table, each having a chance to kindle and to make the blessing on their candles.

To complete the disrupted program the audience sang happy birthday to the 3 older winner girls – Mirel, Musia and Hinda who all have a birthday over the Sukkot holiday.

This event is one of the many programs that Neshama – Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach offers. For more info visit www.ChabadManhattanBeach.com.
